Historic Train Depot
Rock Springs, Wyoming

The beautiful historic train depot in Rock Springs was built in the 1920's and was restored in the 1990's. The depot was the entry point for many to the west many of who worked in the coal mines surrounding Rock Springs. The depot no longer sees passengers come through the doors but coal trains still pass by from the handful of coal mines in the area still in production.

Thomas Welch and Dr. J.W. Hawk in 1920 first opened the doors to the Tomahawk hotel, a 3 story building that has been the home to many businesses including a bowling alley, hotel, tavern, and even a J.C. Penny. The hotel offered a night of luxury to guests when it first opened but then for railroad workers in its latter years. We at Coal Train are excited to occupy a newly renovated part of this building that holds quite a bit of history.
